Welcome to another episode of the Empower LEP Podcast! This week, host Jana Parker welcomes Briana Wagner, an inspiring school psychology community figure and a friendly face on social media who educates and advocates for change in the field. Briana is an experienced school psychologist and a relatively new LEP who is excited about the opportunities ahead of her as she expands her reach into the private sector. She represents many LEPs who have been in public service for years and are just starting to explore what’s possible outside of working for school districts. 

Briana has been working in public education for 13 years, starting as a kindergarten teacher before moving into her current role as a school psychologist. Over the past seven years, she has worked as a school psychologist with students of all ages, from preschool to high school, across various settings. 

We dive right into the challenges of spreading awareness about dynamic assessment and Briana's efforts to educate and train others through her social media platform, "Educationally Psyched." Briana runs this Instagram account to support educators and parents in learning together about school psychology, special education, and diverse learners. She creates student and parent-friendly resources to support student self-advocacy and a better understanding of the IEP process, which are linked below if you want to check them out. 

Briana's dedication to transparency with students about their disabilities, transparency with parents about special education in schools, building student self-advocacy, and fostering productive teamwork between parents and schools shines through in our discussion.
